John
Ross, co-founder of The Meter Room in New York City is a Pittsburgh
based artist who works with recycled materials in creating his works.
Using metal scraps, discarded furniture and vintage household appliances.
John transforms ordinary objects into truly unique pieces of art. Pittsburgh’s
industrial heritage provides the perfect environment for John Ross' work,
allowing him easy access to old steel mill sites and industrial scrap
yards where he finds many of the pieces and inspirations for his work.
John Ross regularly has showings in Pittsburgh and New York.
John Ross' unique
style is the result of years of work at perfecting his trade through experimenting
with new techniques, using various chemical interactions with his paints
and materials. Additionally his technique of modernizing antique furniture
by applying different aesthetically pleasing elements is exceptional.

“The
pieces are attention getting, and with everything always going on all
around us, if I can get someone to stop and take a look at a painting
of mine, it's a great accomplishment. I create pieces that you can touch.
I build texture into them, which allows them to be experienced by actually
touching and feeling them and not just viewing them from a distance. I
enjoy seeing the people who buy my art. There’s no such thing as
a starving artist; it's simply a matter of making it happen. Great coffee,
good music, and hours of isolation, are the key ingredients.” ...johnross
